The bouncy pop of Borderline and Like a Virgin was replaced by thoughtful ballads like Live To Tell. The sex kitten was deveoping into a cat. A sex cat but a cat nevertheless!!

There is something endearing about someone reaching out to find new ground and Madonna finally landed on some with Like a Prayer. That was the album which saw her enter a different league. Thoughtful epic songs exploring topics like her divorce and lapsed catholocism saw her using the listener as therapist. The mock shock and 'outrage' of various church groups only added frisson to the entire package.

It became apparent however that some refused to accept that you can be sexy AND make expressive thoughtful music. Some people I knew were indignant that I could possibly enjoy the music of a mere pop singer. Despite my explaining that she actually makes complete music, one person in particular refused to believe it. So much so her resentment towards Madonna reflected on me. She told me I had actually gone down in her estimation because of my Madonna admiration.

It was a year before George Michael found an appropriate name for the way I dealt with this but I only wanted her to Listen Without Prejudice! Next time she came to my house I put on Promise to try....a ballad from Like a Prayer which is piano strings and Madonna softly singing about failing to ever come to terms with her mothers death. "Little girl dont you forget her face
Laughing away your tears
When she was the one who felt all the pain"

The thing is though I actually told my friend that the song was by Stevie Nicks! That she of Fleetwood Mac was tweaking heart strings. When the song ended my friend mentioned that it was 'heartbreakingly beautiful' and to be able to write a song like that is a tremendous gift etc etc. At this point I explained what I'd done and shewas seriously embarrassed!! Sometimes those who smirk at the concept of style over content are the most vigorous pursuers of style over content!!

The best snobby eltist is an exposed snobby elitist. And you don't have to simulate masturbnation when you listen....unless you want to of course!!!!!Joestokehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01559926000846872071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17639100.post-60385822315724964942008-08-19T00:39:00.000+10:002008-08-19T00:39:00.000+10:00The Madonna quote that sticks is "I saw losing my ...The Madonna quote that sticks is "I saw losing my virginity as a career move."

Yuk.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17639100.post-71609147254398156932008-08-18T17:05:00.000+10:002008-08-18T17:05:00.000+10:00St.Richard of Dawkins has ripped astrology to piec...St.Richard of Dawkins has ripped astrology to pieces so I dare not ascribe to it, but, it claimed, well before the birth of Ms.Ciccone, that LEO subjects are all about Hair and 'look at me'.

and aged Mick Jagger now resembles a shar pei dog.

the entire african continent is full of starving neglected children who continue to be so, despite the efforts of Unicef ambassadors Nicole Kidman and the late Audrey Hepburn, and now Mia Farrow-Sinatra-Konigsberg.
If there is no food in africa, where do the parents of these waves of babies, get the energy to copulate?Ann ODynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01159263330547329077noreply@blogger.com
